Hi, I have an i5 750 with a gigabyte gtx 770. The i5 is oc'ed to 3,6 ghz with a cm hyper 212 evo but as you could imagine it bottlenecks me a bit. So my question is, now that I can should I buy a haswell refresh or broadwell cpu (or an amd good cpu) knowing that skylake will be released in 2015 with ddr4 and some huge improvements? Personally I think that my cpu will blow up one day (Its 5 years old and oc'ed)but now works fine. If I should buy a haswell or amd what cpu can be the best for a gtx 770?

Solution
I wouldn't wait for Skylake. I'd get an H97 motherboard or a Z97 motherboard and Haswell Refresh CPU. Skylake is just too far off; even Broadwell may be too far off. If you always wait for new parts that are ~2 years away, you'll wait for all eternity.

Intel is ahead of AMD in everything except the very low-budget market. At the $100+ CPU price point Intel takes a lead and it gets bigger and bigger as you increase in price.

For a GTX 770, if you don't plan to OC again, I would recommend H97 + i5-4690.
If you do plan to OC, I would recommend Z97 + i5-4670k.
That's assuming you have a high budget.
Good question with no firm answer. Personally, I'd go with the June delivery of the Devil's Canyon 4970K processor. It is an overclockable 4770K with a better thermal solution that "they" are saying will overclock to at least 5GHz. You will need a new motherboard though, I'd recommend the ASUS Hero VII.

Actually, the Broadwell has been pushed out a year, to 2015. Don't look for Skylake before mid 2016. It seems Broadwell is mostly a power saving exercise so I wouldn't wait for it at all. DDR4 is pretty much worthless. Already the RAM doesn't slow things down for most any application, especially games. Sorry, AMD has been stepped on by Intel.

So i will get a 4690(k if possible) with a z97 to oc because a i7 is so expensive and i think it isnt worth for gaming.I expect this cpu will resist for 3 years and also more with the release of directx12 that dont stress the cpu.

Thanks for your answers!

Yes, a 4690 (even a locked one) will easily last for 3 years.
