Hey guys.

I've got this 5 years old WD Green. Im thinking about getting new drive but I cant decide whether I should buy WD blue (50€) or should I get an SSD drive (SD ultra 50€) instead.

your opinions?

thanks

hi Wort
Stepping up to an ssd is a good idea , it will dramatically improve your windows loading and application execution speed .
If you have not had an ssd before you will be impressed by the improvement.
I would as a precaution at some stage , especially if you only have the one HDD , get another internal or external drive for the purposes of backing up your data, there is no guarantee as to how long your existing hard drive will go for but like all mechanical HDD's at some point in the future it will die, so best to backup any important data in case of this eventuality .
For your 50€ i would add an extra £5.89 recommend this ...

What I would do, myself, is get the SSD and run an HDD stress test on the WD Green. If it passed, I would keep it and use it as storage. If it doesn't then it's no good and I'd save up for a while to get a nice storage drive, too.

This is one of the best SSD's currently performance wise

It all depends on speed vs capacity. But safety is the greatest issue. If you only have money for one thing, buy a hard drive for backup and save up for a future backup.

Even the most reliable wd hard drives and plextor ssds can and will fail. And that is... No fun at all. Much less fun than the small speed or size boosts you got for skipping the backup.

Also, stick with the cheapest trusted Ssd on the market if you go that route. People will recommend 'much better' drives for 'only a little bit more' but really, it isn't worth it. Any ssd will be so much faster than a hard drive, and the rest is mostly negligible for you.
