Has anyone ever connected faster RAM than their motherboard and has it worked?

Just need to know because I plan on buying 2133MHz RAM on a 1600MHz motherboard and need to know if it will work. I posted before but I think it got deleted as I can't find it.

Solution
You might have to run the memory at less than advertised speeds but it will work. Like bradsctt said, I would get a better board that can handle faster memory and a decent CPU too. Memory speed and OCing depends on the CPU too.

Which motherboard do you have?
You can usually use faster RAM, it will downclock to the maximum speed (1600Mhz in this case), and you can then set the RAM speed to 2133 or whatever the speed of the RAM you have is, eg:

My Z87 PRO supports up to 1600Mhz without overclocking, but can support up to 3000Mhz with overclocking.

If your motherboard supports it, you can usually set the RAM to use XMP, which will automatically detect the optimum speed and timings for the RAM, without user input.

Haven't bought either one yet but I plan on getting the G-Skill 8GB RipjawsX DDR3 2133 and use them on Gigabyte GA-H87-HD3. I will be using Intel i5-4670k. Do you know if the CPU and RAM will overclock on this motherboard?

Try and get a Z87 motherboard, those are designed for overclocking your CPU.
This board costs a bit more, but it has more features and you should be able to overclock easily with it.
