hi all,
looking at getting nbn next week when i move to my new house, and was going to sign up with OzLink, because they will beat any nbn price, and tpg has there unlimited high speed (100/40) for 89.99 a month.

now when it comes to all things networking, i am as dumb as dog shit about it. so i dont know what is good.

i will have my "smart" tv hooked up, my laptop, my pc, and maybe 1 or 2 phones.

the TP-LINK TD-W8980 is a model up from what OzLink will supply, but i will save about $20 if i go and get it outright for around $98

is this a good choice? or what others would everyone suggest?

these are the 2 shops that are local to me,

MSY Tech http://www.msy.com.au/qld/brendale/
and
Umart http://www.umart.com.au/newindex2.phtml?bid=3

Thanks everybody

People seem to think that the Dodo modem/router is OK - http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=65&topicid=129096

The Dodo one is only 300Mbps and not dual band though. So you only get 2.4GHz wifi in the house. This is OK with just one or so devices. But 5GHz is good for a half dozen or more devices. Dual band - yo can have 3 devices or so on the 2.4GHz and another 6 devices on the 5GHz. This improves each device internet and connection speeds.

Maybe ask them if they have a dual band modem/router instead if you really want one. You should be able to use your tp link. Check their website. Its unusual for an ISP to insist on a certain modem/router.

ok so i was told that that router was good for a cable setup, but for wireless i would be better off paying an extra $40 and get the TP-Link Archer C7 AC1750 because it has the 802.11ac.

what are your thoughts on that?
also do you know of any good 802.11ac pcie wifi cards? i was looking at this
ASUS PCE-AC68 Dual-band Wireless-AC1900 Adapter [http://www.msy.com.au/qld/brendale/peripherals/12332-asus-retail-pce-ac68-dual-band-wireless-ac1900-pci-e-adapter.html]

i already own a Gigabyte GC-WB300D [http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4135#ov] it came with my motherboard.

sorry for a late reply, i had to choose Dodo NBN 100/40mbps because no other internet provider can do that area, and OzLink did not want to price match.
now they said i can't use my own modem and that they need to supply the modem because it will guarantee best performance (complete BS if you ask me), the modem they are supplying (making me buy for a stupid price of $120) is an Audiocodes MP-264.
is there any reason i can't just swap the Audiocodes MP-264 for the TP-LINK TD-W8980?
or is the Audiocodes MP-264 a good modem? (i can't find any solid reviews on it)

Thanks for taking the time and helping me i7Baby
