I'm finalizing my new build and would be grateful if you all could critique it and check it over. I'll be gaming primarily, but also be involved in video editing. In the future, I wouldn't mind going SLI w/ the GPU, so I figured the larger PSU would be beneficial down the road. And I might dabble in OC as well. Also, I'm still in need of decent case, so if you have suggestions I'm open to them.

Speaking of cases, would a mid tower be fine for this build? My old tower is full sized, but I'm running into a space issue with it at my new residence, so I wouldn't mind a smaller tower on this one. Thanks for all your comments, suggestions and critiques. My build:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($269.99 @ Micro Center)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($99.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 ($229.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($189.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($199.99 @ Micro Center)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.24 @ Amazon)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB Superclocked ACX Video Card ($729.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 1000W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($188.99 @ Amazon)
Optical Drive: LG WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer ($67.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $1996.14

Hi, Irish Kelly,

Nice selection of components. It's good to see a Fully Modular PSU in the rig.

Just my two cents, I'd go with a full tower cabinet keeping air-flow, temperatures and addition of GPU's in mind.

Good luck with your build!
Cheers!

What is your budget? Since you've got a modular PSU, I would suggest you to get either of the following:
1) NZXT H440 which costs $120 but it doesn't the support for optical drive but its quiet and got a lot of other cool features.
2) Corsair 600T Graphite series - Arctic white which costs $179.

I'd be will to spend around $150 for a case. And regarding towers w/o optical drive support, does everyone just get an external drive and plug it in when needed? Is there a benefit or drawback to it? I've never owned a tower without a built-in optical drive.

Thanks! And I kind of figured a full-tower was going to still be recommended.

There are no specific disadvantages in going with a optical-drive less case, I think. Unless you're a guy who is regularly using the optical drive, I would suggest you to get an external drive. Without the internal optical drive, you would have more space which would eventually help in efficient cable routing and less power consumption.

The best thing would be to reuse your old full size tower. I remove my optical drives from the tower after I finish install the operating however I prefer the option to have them.

Corsair Obsidian 750D $159

Disclaimer: I just buy clearance HP desktops for $100-150 since those come with Case, CPU, RAM, HDD and an optical drive however I really like researching.

Operating System can be installed using an external drive as well. If that is not working, you can also install OS using a pen drive which is very easy to do.
