Super annoying problem with my custom build for a week or two, before I get in it here is the list of my components.
- Asus Micro ATX DDR3 1600 FM2 Motherboard A55M-E
- AMD ATHLON X4 Processor AD740XOKHJBOX
- GAMMA Classic Series ATX Mid Tower Interior Steel Chassis (Black)
- Kingston Hyper X Blu 8 GB (2x4GB Modules) 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 XMP Desktop Memory - KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX
- Dynex™ - 520W ATX CPU Power Supply
- Old 320 GB Hitatchi Deckstar HDD, Windows 7 Installed
- LG Optical Drive
- AMD Radeon 7800 Series 1GB Graphics Card

So My Problem is everything is hooked up to where it should be, bar one screw on the lower right of the motherboard that doesnt line up with the case. Once I hit the power button everything whirls up except the computer screen, keyboard, and mouse get no power and the system basically stops right there (as if it didn't get any power). I had originally thought it was a problem with my motherboard or power supply, so I replaced both with the same things, and the same problem has occurred. I have tried also running with only the motherboard, ram, and psu with the same result. If anyone can help me i'd be extremely thankful. Nothing is worse than finishing your build to find out it won't work due to you overlooking a single thing. Thanks!

Check you MB manual for indications of failure - some have micro speakers which provide a series of beeps - some have indicator lights. I am not going to do the research for you.

You may want to fix the corner of the MB by at least placing some sort of insulator between the case and the board. A few folds of paper will suffice for the time being as you try to figure out this issue. This will keep the idea of it shorting against the case out of the list of possible issues.

You could also try booting up with no memory, or limiting the memory to only one stick. See if you can get to some sort of prompt or bios.

If this fails, then call the fine folks at ASUS and tell them that your MB will not POST.

After setting up the post, i did get the computer to start up, I have the screen and mouse and keyboard on and the screen has the system information etc. So now that its working, what would the problem be, the computer case?

btw i used the cpu, mobo, 1 stick of ram, psu, and videocard

Final edit, just kept putting one thing at a time then powering up the system after the POST, even though nothing changed in setup it magically works, so I think a wire must have been the culprit. Thanks!

You are following the best course of action. Simplify the situation - test - add a component - test - (lather rinse repeat.)

This approach allows you to verify the foundation - then to identify any gap in your setup for a faulty component. The normal desire is to put it all together and to power it on and hope everything works. More often than not - this is fine. However when issues arrise you need to go back to the foundation and then begin to build one component at a time.

I am glad that you were able to get things working. Hopefully you can find something more permenant for the corner of your MB that is not secured to a standoff.

Good luck.
