I am working on a Win XP Pro SP3 computer, it was infected with malware and spyware. I was able to remove all the malware and spyware using malwarebytes. Once everything was removed and the computer restarted all the desktop icons are unclickable. The start menu the my computer icon got renamed to folder and the computer icon its self is missing, I am unable to open the menu for the all programs at the bottom of that start menu as well. On the desktop I am able to right click to access the proprieties of the shortcut. I tried to create a new shortcut for some programs but those did not work as well. I am able to still launch programs by clicking their .exe files in program files. It is just the shortcuts do not work. I also ran TDSSKiller, rouge killer, and malwarebytes one more time and all the scans came back clean. I also ran a chkdsk /r and sfc /scannow. I don't want to have to reinstall XP because there are programs on here that I won't be able to reinstall because they do not exist anymore.

I have been working on this some more and it turns out just the shortcuts do not work. I have read to download files from www.dougknox.com to fix this issue but the site is down and I am unable to find the files anywhere else.

I found that also the mmc console was not working along with missing mutilp tabs on different system proptries, so in the end I mad a few backups crossed my fingers and tried using the windows XP repair to fix everything. To my luck it worked this time.
