So I have a budget dual core g2020 processor and so far I never had any problems with it playing games like bioshock infinite, but I got interested in playing bf4 and others said that I would need a quadcore in order to play it flawlessly. I'll be upgrading my graphics card to a r9 270, Do I need to upgrade my processor as well? Is there any noticeable performance gains in gaming using a quadcore?

It really depends on the game. Some games can optimize using more than 1 core (like BF4) and others can't. A processor is important in gaming but not as much as a GPU is. You will gain performance increases up to a point but it can vary so much from game to game I would advice looking at benchmarks. Personally I would advice getting a new CPU because that other wise it could become a bottle neck on the rest of your system. That said however you should still be able to run BF4 without a new one.

The answer is, as always... it depends.

In the case of BF4, single player depends more on the graphics card than the cpu. But, in multiplayer, the cpu becomes more important.

Few games can actually use more than 2-3 cores effectively, so a quad, by itself is not necessarily the solution.
My rule of thumb for a balanced gamer is to budget 2x the cpu cost for the graphics card.

On that basis, you might expect that a cpu upgrade in the future might be warranted.

I might look forward to the Pentium anniversary cpu.
It is supposed to be a overclockable dual core in the $100 range.

Regardless, wait until you get your new card and do some testing.
Try this test:
Limit your cpu. In windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 70%.
This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do.
Or, conversely, what a stronger cpu will do.

Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/
set to 70% .

With that video card you can easily do an upgrade on the CPU, and if you want to play modern or badly coded games, you would want an upgrade.
Here is a comparison between your CPU and the best budget gaming CPU now, AMD FX 6300 http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Pentium-G2020-vs-AMD-FX-6... Look at the 3D Mark 11 (Physics) score.

You may be able to overclock your CPU if you want to get more performance, but an upgrade to an i5 to match the R7 270 would be a better move and will give you a much better result in all games.

It really depends on the game... A lot.

Many games rely mostly on 2-3 cores and will run well on your CPU, even better than newer AMD CPUs. Plenty rely on 4 and will perform worse. A few even rely on 6-8 and will run very badly on your CPU.
