I have an Acer V5-551 notebook with Win7 on it. I cannot find the drivers for the SM Bus controller and USB controller. The Acer site has proven to be useless for this. Any ideas?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is often the case with new version of Windows to be embraced by OEMs, and not tp provide drivers for older versions. Try fo find out hardware IDs for devices without drivers, and look at their manufacturers. If you are in luck, you will find drivers from chip' manufacturers.

The SM Bus controller is the chipset driver that is available from the official acer download site. You have to run the installation software to install the driver. (Your computer will not automatically detect this driver) The USB controller is also available from the official acer download site. http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/drivers If you load it into a folder onto your hard drive and update driver in the device settings (control panel>system>hardware>device manager and choose "install from list or specific location" and then select the folder where you placed the driver file. It will automatically detect the driver file from your folder. All the required drivers for your Acer computer are available from this site. From memory there are two other drivers that requires installation and is not automatically detected. When the drivers are extracted from the zip file you will see the ones that come with installation software.

There is no chipset Drivers or USB 3 driver from the official site, obviously people would of checked that first, the original OS does not even have chipset drivers for the Acer Aspire V5-551

HERE IS THE FIX:
The General Chipset USB3 Drivers from AMD will fix this! (Worked on my V5-551 when acer did not have them)
