UPS Power Failures

Solution

As the other responder says, it is the same as losing power without a UPS attached. Problem may not appear immediately either. When power drops unexpectedly disks can be vulnerable. Open files can be corrupted and data sitting in a cache will not be written. The 'dirty' bit will be set so CHKDSK should be run on the next boot. That 'may' fix any problem.

There are basically 2 types of UPS's, what I'll call standard which 'simulates' an AC waveform and works for older computers. Newer ones (and some servers) require PFC, Power Form Correction, UPS's. If your PC has a PFC PSU you can not use the Standard ones, the PC is drop power when that type kicks in due to AC power loss. There are some...
If a UPS shuts off while powering a PC, the effects are likely to be similar to those caused by a power-outage on a non-protected PC (e.g. data loss, possibly severe if your mechanical HDD was writing in the directory at the time). One difference is that when a UPS shuts off, it is typically not going to first send who-knows-what voltage or spikes down the line, the way a storm may have killed the A/C power in the first place.
Now, if you have a PC that just shuts off even though you have a UPS, that's a different problem; most likely the waveform output by the UPS looks so unlike a real sine wave that the PSU sees it as bad power and shuts off. This is most common with cheap UPS units that may output a square wave rather than anything remotely like a sine wave.

There are some AVR UPS's that may work with a PFC PSU though, but not reliably.

Also, most if not all UPS's have a USB cable that with the UPS s/w will properly shutdown a PC with the loss of AC power, and can run the PC and attached devices for a period of time after AC power loss for you to close application or do some work and then shutdown. Once the UPS has reached its power supply limit it will automatically shutdown though.

I totally agree with above two contributors if you face UPS power loss it is the same as the situation when your system shut downs with out UPS on sudden power outage. It can have various adverse effect like you can loss your data, due to sudden shut down open files can become corrupted. Due to frequent shut downs and that to not proper can create worst situation and system can also get corrupted.
