New computer wont sleep or hibernate

I recently built a new computer based on an AMD A6-5400K and an Asrock FM2A75M Pro4+. It has Windows 7 Home Prem OEM. No video card. It worked the first time I turned it on and has worked ever since. A major problem I'm having is the lack of ability to put the computer to sleep or hibernate.

Win7 does not have a sleep option. The OS says I don't have a video card so it can't put the computer to sleep. If I manually click the hibernate button, the computer will wake itself after about an hour. I'm wary of monitor burn-in and excess power waste.

Is this a typical problem of A-Series AMD CPUs or do I have to install a discreet video card? And will a video card actually resolve this problem?

I've altered the power profiles numerous times but they always fail. I've also tried the Catalyst Controler and tweeked the BIOS. None made any difference. My next attempt will be to fiddle with powercfg but there's a bit of a learning curve there.
