I already have a machine that I built about two years ago which is still usable for gaming. Right now, I am looking into building another mainly to play with the systems, learn some programming, install linux somewhere, etc. I might or might not game on it.

Here are the components I have decided on sofar:

FX- 6300 CPU.

Cougar spike case

MB

HDD

GPU

R7 250

R9 270
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202090

I haven't decided on the card yet. The 270 seems to be a decent card for $180. If I am already willing to pay $90 for the 250 then I might as well pay another $90 and get an okay GPU.

I'm lost when it comes to the RAM. How do I go about finding the right match for the CPU and MB?

Aside from the above, the only pieces I am missing are the optical drive, a wireless adapter, plus I might go ahead and get more fans for the case.

As for the power supply.Let's just assume that I am getting the R9 270 just in case I do get it or decide to upgrade in the future. I haven't looked into PSU because I have no clue on how to go about picking one but I did come across this one.

Think it will work?

Do let me know if I happen to be missing any components. Thanks.

The new 4150 is only $3 more than the 4130. I recommend this motherboard for an i3

EDIT: Oops I forgot you wanted a miniITX

You cannot use a FX6300 in a miniATX build. There are no motherboards, and even the microATX motherboards are bad. I recommend either an i3 or the Athlon x4 760k. The i3 is better, but the Athlon is cheaper and would possible allow you to get a better video card.

I am too lazy to do anymore research when it comes to CPUs. There are just too many out there.

Anyways, somebody suggested the i3-4350 but I don't have much go on since it isn't even on hierarchy chart yet.
What do you think?

Btw, I think that I'll pass on the GPU. Just going to go ahead and get a R7 250 for light gaming. This way I will have a bit more money for the cpu.

Okay, switching cases to one that supports an ATX MB. One of the reasons for wanting to stay in the micro/mini cases was my set up at home. I wanted to be able to just place the case on top of the desk and not have to worry about it being too heavy.

Is only about ~10 pounds and only a few inches taller than the cougar I had in mind.

So, what's a good ATX MB to couple with the 6300 then? I tried researching other cpus and there isn't much else out there. Besides, chances are that I will end up with the same issues if I am to limit myself to itx.

No other cpus out there would be limited like the FXs. I do recommend a Haswell i3 over the FX6300. Really an i5 would be best if you can afford it. The FX cpus are outdated now and are in need of replacing. The i3 4130 or any one of it's brothers will absolutely destroy the FX in single core performance and in anything that uses 4 cores or less which is pretty much 80-90% of everything out there. It's only when you are able to use all 6 cores will the FX shine.

The R7 250 is not good at all in gaming. If you are using a 1080p monitor, you should get at least a R7 260x, but I recommend the GTX 750 or 750ti because how how little power they draw and they are bother faster than the 260x.

Hmm, those 750's are really close to $150's. I might as well go and get the 270 at $180.

I don't really need a GPU at the moment. I want to focus on the CPU and everything else before I can figure out whether I want to bother with a GPU or not. I'm running a 7950 on my current machine and I hardly ever game anymore. The purpose of the new machine would simply be for learning new OS and some programming.

Suppose, I should have mentioned the above before. Eh, well, it seems that there is nice -10 discount on the i3-4130 right now. I'm going to go ahead and settle for the i3-4130. Let's talk Mb, ram and psu?

The L1150 boards seem a bit pricy for my needs. I prefer asrock over other brands and this one is the cheapest they have and it has things I do not need.

The next best would be a gigabyte but from what I've heard they aren't very good...
