GTX 780 SC ACX vs. R9 290x Tri-x OC (Same Price)?

On Newegg, a Mother's Day sale featured the R9 290x for $495!!! I was dead set on ordering the GTX 780, but from what I've heard, the 290x is essentially on the same tier as the 780TI (slightly less performance, but much cheaper).

This is my first PC build. I've had two PCs in the past, but the first was an Alienware with a GTX 670, and the second was a new custom PC pre-assembled on Ebay with a 7990. The 7990 build gave me dreadful FPS, hence why I am hesitant about another AMD purchase. The 7990 was an unpopular card, anyway, so I'm willing to give AMD another chance. I want to know what you guys think about following through or canceling my order :)

My build:
CPU:i5-4670k
Cooler: NH-D14
Mobo: ASUS Maximus Hero
PSU: HX-750 (Sale at $89.99 :D)
Case: Phantom 410
Memory: G-Skillz Ripjaw X 8GB
Storage: 1 TB Western Digital Caviar Blue

Considering it's the Tri-X, I would definitely go for the 290x. It has great performance, and I'm glad their prices are starting to get back to normal lol $500 is what their MSRP should be lol

And the 7990 probably gave you problems with Crossfire, but there aren't any problems with a single 290x with AMD's drivers that I know of.

If you can cancel the order without taking the return fee and restocking fee, I personally would, but it's up to you.

Keep in mind you won't be crossfiring that in the future on a 750w power supply like you could SLI the 780, too.

Thanks guys, 290x it is! Great timing, too, with the Never Settle Forever bundle :)

The guy who said that 290x is much better than 780 needs to do a little more research. An overclocked 780 especially the gigabyte 780 windforce 3 oc card which comes with a hefty overlcock beats 290x in a few games. Its basically neck and neck.

290x comes close to the 780 Ti, and handily beats the 780 in MLL
290x beats 780 Ti in Company of Heroes and destroys the 780
290x performs similarly to 780 in Bioshock Infinite
290x performs similarly to 780 in Crysis 3
290x performs similarly to 780 Ti in Hitman: Absolution, and destroys the 780
290x comes close to the 780 Ti in Grid 2, and easily beats the 780

290x is selling for around $500-$550 right now, and 780 is selling for $450-$500.

For an extra $50, you get the same performance as a 780 in games that favor NVIDIA cards, but get similar/better than 780 Ti performance in games that either have no preference, or favor AMD.

I wouldn't call beating a 780 Ti in some games, and similar performance to a 780 in others neck and neck.

But isn't 290x Tri-X OC highly overclockable, as well? Even if the Gibabyte 780 Ghz edition could outperform the 290x Tri-X OC, couldn't I just overclock the 290x and then beat the Gigabyte 780? Also, I was fortunate enough to snag the 290x at $495, even less than the 780 :)
