my cpu is running at stock speed and at idle the bios for my msi z87m-g43 states that its running at around 45C, give or take a couple of celsius. When i use the CPUID Hwmonitor at idle its 32C with the individual cores going from 28C to 31C. Common sense tells me to go with the motherboards cpu temp but that would imply that anyone else with the same cpu and perhaps similar board would also be getting false readings, so its left me a bit confused. i was hoping to do a little overclocking mildly with the stock cooler just to around 4ghz or slightly higher but now that i suspect my temps are already hitting high 70s at 3.8ghz (turbo unlocked by default on my board) i dont want to run any higher or even that high tbh. whether it helps or not, ive never felt any kinda hot air from the exhaust fan on my aerocool dead silence case, always been a nice cool breeze but then when ive been gaming i dont put my hand to the back of my pc and im not sure that would help me clarify my problem anyway.
Would really appreciate some advice, thanks for your time.

Well I am no expert, however, I use core temp and it seems to be fairly accurate. I also know if you want to be most accurate get a few different programs to monitor it and take the average. If temps are still too high for what you want reconfig your intake and exhaust or add a better heat sink etc. hope this helps, and good luck.

Put your trust in BIOS above all. Next coretemp and speedfan are good. HWmonitor gets its temps wrong more times than right.
The stock cooler can hardly support a mild OC at all, so if you plan to, even .1GHz get an aftermarket cooler.

just remember when your mobo bios says cpu it is talking about the socket its not talking about the core temp
