Hello, ive been searching all over and yet to find a same problem as mine so im sorry if someone knows about it and is posted...

I have a Nice MSI MOBO & Brand New Radeon HD 6540 1024MBGddr3 Hooked up to my Harman Kardon AVR 2650-

Windows 8.1 64bit --latest drivers installed...

I go to sound and try to configure speakers on my AMD HDMI devise and it gives me stereo/quadraphonic/5.1/7.1--- Awesome right! Wrong If i choose 5.1 all speakers sound great but lose center same with 7.1 if i leave on stereo i get all channels just not as good quality.

Receiver says im getting PCM/48--All audio/video sources on my HDD are DTS-HD MA and DTS

I never had this problem with my MAC---

I have a DVD on HDD of Sarah Brightman and when i switch Audio(vlc) nothing changes

I should be getting other sound formats and im not, just the same signal to receiver-

I want to be able to send DTS/Dolby. etc signals to AVR to decode and seems this GPU cant or wont....

More about : radeon 6540 sound problems

Best solution

As far as I know, you can't have 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound in an HDMI audio device... I'm assuming that it was your monitor?

My GPu is 7.1HD and using HDMI out to HDMI in on AVR-- i should get a digital signal--My receiver is not getting the HD Audio and The 5.1/7.1 selection should not eliminate center Channel..Maybe windows just sucks? My mac sends DD/DTS to reciever perfectly via Optical-So my Pc should do same via HDMI

check your cables, it all could fall onto low quality cables,
