Hey guys, I recently got an EVGA GeForce GTX 660 graphics card, (exact card here:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FU4XG70/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I was wondering how loud it's supposed to be. I have an Alienware X51, which was a big mistake to buy, but I was a small child and didn't want to build my own. It has always been basically completely silent, but my GT 545 was out of date, so I wanted to up the power. I have it installed now, and it works fine, but it's super loud! The noise can be described as a saw cutting a metal pipe, if you know what that sounds like, though it isn't as loud as a real saw. If not, its a moderately high-pitched grinding sound. I have no idea if it's supposed to sound like that or if it's supposed to be more quiet. The noise is sort of driving me insane though. And it is picked up on my headset when talking on Skype and such. So let me know if it's normal, and also how I can get it to quiet down a bit. Thanks!

I've had the case open since I installed it, and I'm not sure if it's scraping against something, but I'm 90% sure it isn't. I've taken it out and replaced it a few times to see if that was the case. I made sure the cables were out of the way, so I don't think it's that. Of course, I can't see under the graphics card while it's in place, so I can't be totally sure. How would I tell if it's scraping against the heatsink? And could I maybe take it out of the case and...

It shouldn't be that loud...are you sure the fan isn't scraping against something like a cable or the heatsink? It should be noticeably louder than your old card but not saw through metal loud...

it does sound like the fan of your graphics card is scraping on something like either a loose cable or the casing. Open your case, check it for loose cables and run it with the case open for a bit. A least this will eliminate the card itself as the source.

I have 0 knowledge of this :D
