I already have this power supply from my old build, can I use it in my new build also ?
Maximus VI Hero
i7-4770k (at the beggining not going to oc)
GTX770 SC EVGA 2GB
thank you

Solution
The 770 in a complete system needs 42A on the +12V rail to operate efficiently. The XFX 550W Core provides 44A on the +12V rail, so you will be able to use it. However, as mentioned above, overclocking will push the bounds too far so overclocking is not recommended.

Yes but I wouldn't overclock on it. Geforce recommends 600w for the GTX770, but we know the XFX 550w has plenty of amps and that is the important part. Still, I like to stay within both requirements so I would definitely not overclock because that drives up the i7's power consumption.

I was reading some reviews regarding the XFX 550w, it is a really good PSU. I think i would not overclock now as the CPU and VGA can handle anything for now. I want to make sure if it can handle without any problems.

Hi - A couple of things to be aware of: That PSU is not Haswell compatible. Shouldn't harm your system, but could be annoying when the computer awakens from a sleep sate (you might want to disable sleep state in BIOS)

Also, NVidia lists the same power requirements for the gtx770 as the 780, however, it does in fact use less. You can actually run your system with 34 +12v amps as opposed to the 42 suggested (assuming you are not bitcoin mining).

Basically, this means you can in fact overclock if you wish. You have close to 100w headroom for OC - 10amps*12v = 120w. That's plenty.

I forgot this part, Im going to check if it is compatible.
Thank you for the answer :)

Hi - OP said"core edition from old build" which is not Haswell cert, if he has a TS model then yes it is Haswell cert.,
but I tend to think it is the older core edition & not Haswell ready.

I have the Core Edition (bought in 2012) so it is the old model. I found out that it is not compatible :( so i will get a new PSU also. The problem is that i am only finding corsair (i heart that corsair are not good psu as others). Any suggestions?

Antec, Corsair, PCP&C, Seasonic, XFX. Corsair's lower end CX and some TX aren't all that good but they won't set your PC on fire like other low-end models either. The XFX suggested above is fine.

Are the CS Series Modular good? I am trying to look for a modular PSU because there are a lot of cables in my current XFX PSU that I will never use in a 1000 years. I found a CS650M , is it good? Also I found a XFX650w Semi-Modular.
