No, not at all. They are a great pairing.

It won't bottleneck it, however, depending on the game you're playing FX cpu can be questionable.

I'd try for a locked i5 myself.

For the money of a 6300 you will not get anywhere close to a locked i5. The 6300 is GREAT value for money when building a mid-range gaming build.

It depends on the games he plays. If he plays a game that the 6300 will drop to 40 fps or under in then no.

I own...

FX 8320
FX 6300
i7-4770k

There are many games that the FX cpu just can't handle more then 40 fps in many spots, such as skyrim, borderlands 2, Saints Row, lots.

I'd take a locked i5, and R9 270x over a FX 6300 / 760 myself. It wouldn't cost that much more, but the CPU would be able to handle many games much better.

I don't believe you can get an i5 + 270x for the same price as a 6300 + 760.

The price difference is there.

What if I went to a older i5 3570k and kept my gtx 660. Until. Broad we'll comes out. In 2015. Will the 3570k last about 2 more years until the release of broadwell?

Yes it should be fine. a gtx660 is only slightly worse than a 270x. IF you have a gtx660 already, you should be trying to get a better GPU than a 270x.

What's your budget?

I'd take a i5 and 660 over a 6300 and 760.

I would definitely not agree with this. The 6300 is good enough and the difference between the 760 and the 660 will make up the rest. Honestly I would 100% recommend the 6300 and 760 over an i5 and a 660.

I don't know man. I used to believe in FX chips, until I got my hands on a Intel chip and saw all of my previous problems go away. Sure, the FX chips do ok in some games, but in many they are what I consider unplayable. I spent a lot of money upgrading trying to fix issues that were at its core caused by the CPU I was using (FX8320)

If you already have a FX 6300, then there is no reason to upgrade. It's worth it, but only if you have the money. If you're looking to buy a new CPU/GPU, then I'd work in a way to get a i5 even if it's locked.

**BTW tiny, I used to use that same case. THe "Rosewill R5". I'm going to end up putting the 990FXA-UD5 / FX 8320 I replaced with my Hero/4770k back into it and make a general usage system.

I believe you had some issue with your setup. I have an old Phenom 2 x4 965BE and I can max Slyrim and Boarderlands 2 with my gtx660ti.

OP, Drop the h100i. Get an i5 4440 and a b85 motherboard with the saved money. They get a gtx760. You should not be wasting $100 on a cooler when on a budget like this.

I had no issues maxing those games. It's the fact that it would drop to 40 fps in some locations...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EZN-YP_fBQ

It was very playable, but, there was noticeable skipping when it would happen

*he already has a h100i I think.

We really need to know your budget.

Anyway, here's a idea...

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1lxBi

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($209.29 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($114.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card ($239.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $564.27

You might even want to think about upgrading your CPU/mobo now, and then upgrading the GPU later if this is out of your budget.

*This isn't a K cpu, and is locked... You really don't need to overclock these CPU.

This is to give you a idea of how it would work out using a K cpu without upgrading your GPU...

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/12cR0

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($114.99 @ Newegg)

Total: $334.98
