Hard drive dying?

I recently upgraded my mom's PC to an SSD. I set it up so that only Windows and other major software are on the SSD and everything else is on the old hard drive set up as just storage. Pictures, music etc are kept on the storage drive. The last couple days the storage drive has been having some issues being detected by windows. When I reboot it always goes through the disk check and sometimes it comes back with the drive ok and other it's not. Eventually it comes back. Just wondering if the drive should be replaced or if something else may be wrong.

Solution
I suggest backing up the hard drive and replacing it. When you notice your hard drive having issues, i would replace it. Mine starting having issues and I just ignored it, shortly later my hard drive died. I lost everything on it.

It wasn't making any noises or anything, just having issues being detected by windows and then on bootup windows always wanted to run checkdisk on it. It's quite old, I don't remember exactly how old. I believe a seagate. I will do as Type75 suggests. Luckily there isn't much on it that would be a devastating loss. I set my mom up with dropbox while back for her pictures and such.
Thanks everyone for the replies
