Hello, lately I've been having some problems with my video games. When I try to play any video game, it will crash to the desktop within 3 to 30 minutes. Sometimes it will give me the "[application name here] has stopped working." error, other times it will simply crash and give no error what so ever. So far it's only been happening inside of games, never anywhere else.

The video games specifically are Teamfortress 2 and Planetside 2 but they have the same crash pattern: within 3 - 30 minutes of gameplay they crash without any error message, sometimes it will give a "[application name' has stopped working" but that's about it.

My system specifications:

Windows 7 64 bit
4 GB RAM
Geforce 9800 GT
Intel Celeron G1620 2.70 GHz (dual core)

I've been keeping a close eye on tempatures. The CPU is running at about 30-38C inside of games at full load and my video card hasn't been going past 57C. I have the latest video card drivers for my video card too

If its worth noting, I put together this desktop a couple of days ago so its a new build, but most of the parts have been used before (video card, ram, processor specifically. Motherboard is new)

Any help would be appreciated

I suspect that you are having power supply problems. What is your power supply?

its either your psu or the gpu its about to die! i had a simiral problem with an 9600gt in an old system, the solution to me was to go on
nvidia control panel-performance-device settings and downclock the gpu clock speed around 50mhz.

The Geforce 9800 GT has a system requirement of a minimum 450W or greater system power supply (with a minimum 12V current rating of 24A). So the power supply that you have is below the recommended wattage. I would recommend a 450- 550 watt power supply be Seasonic or XFX.

The power supply has enough power to run the system at idle, but once the GPU beginns to draw more power it runs into problems.

I see. My friend who sent me the hardware knows a ridiculous amount about computers, he tested the hardware to see the max wattage everything was using and he told me a 400w power supply would be plenty enough.

I pulled out the video card and tested it with just the integrated graphics my processor has, it ran my games decently but it still had the same odd crash pattern.

The other things that come to mind are memory issues and driver issues.

I would re-seat the RAM. Pull each stick of RAM, clean the contacts, blow out the RAM slot, and then firmly replace the stick. I would also run memtest overnight.

On the driver issue, I would uninstall the GPU drivers using a driver cleaner utility, and then reinstall the latest drivers.

The 450 watt statement above isn't just my thoughts on the matter, it is the
manufacturer's system minimum.
