Hi, I'm currently running triple 4gb DDR3 RAM on a Asus m5a78l-m-usb3.

I was wondering if this is an effective memory setup or if Triple Channel hinders performance in anyway. Thanks.

According to the manual, in your situation, the system is running as if it has 8GB in Dual-Channel and the excess 4GB in Single-Channel.

There would only be a performance hit if you went over 8GB of RAM usage. Even when that happens, the performance difference isn't likely to be enough for you to actually notice it.
