I have the following problem:

Ram: PNY XLR8 2133 Mhz enthusiast 4GB RAM stick
Mobo: ASUS A88XM-A
Pro: AMD A8 6600K Black Edition

Ram easily supports till 2133Mhz, mobo supports 2133Mhz natively and 2400Mhz on OC, Processor has memory controller till 1866 MHZ

So why is it limited to 1600Mhz. shouldn't it be 1866 mhz according to my CPU limits???

Please HELP!!

Solution
you can try that if you wish , but you will not burn up your cpu with2133mhz
you will notice little difference between 1866 and 1600 anyway so you may as well leave it at 1600
who says it's limited to 1600? Your probably just not enabling it right. look for DOCP in the overclock or advanced settings of the chip and enable that and it should let you pick a profile (its the same thing as XMP on intel boards). It should be in your manual somewhere how to do this. on asus boards its usually under the AI tweaker section or something. might have to set things from auto to manual to change the timing.

Yeah but it does not have and XMP profile for 1866 Mhz....cant run it at 2133mhz cause i brought the cpu and ram recently..dont want to overclock it.....should I select XMP profile for 2133 mhz and limit the speed to 1866 mhz??

i have looked at your mobo specs and even though your cpu should accept 1866mhz i believe your mobo will only accept 1600mhz natively
if you run at 2133mhz by enabling xmp it will not load up your cpu too much , just keep an eye on temps but i can't see this being an issue

Why is that so?? Doesn't the mobo says that it supports 1866/2133/2400(OC)??
If i want to run at 1866Mhz, should I select XMP profile for 2133 mhz and limit the speed to 1866 mhz??

i know but if it accepted 1866mhz natively that is what speed you would have when it downclocks the 2133mhz but it does not so despite the documentation you are getting 1600mhz so i would say that is the boards native speed ,
why are you so concerned about running the 2133mhz ? your cpu will be fine with that

Is there a possibility that I got the wrong ram...maybe it is 1600 mhz...and seller duped me....is it possible??
On the other hand, I really dont want to burn up my cpu. I saved a lot to make this config and want to have peace of mind.
To be on safer side should i select xmp 2133 and limit speed to 1866 so that it stays within the limits??

Thnx for your inputs.
I set XMP to 2133 Mhz and it seemed to be pretty stable. No lags, freezes,no random shut downs. It was smooth as always.
I have done some temperature benchmarkings. I am using stock cooler as im on short budget.
The readings I got are as follows. I was doing some heavy duty gaming to test it to limits.

Unit Min Max
Mobo 35 59
CPU 44 46
Package 65 89

All temperatures in C

Is it OK?? I'm sacred about the package thing!!

What is package btw??

Thnx a ton. Well running at 2133Mhz has really improved gaming performance as compared to 1600 or 1866 MHz. Thnx for your help. And it was worried that it might heat a lot. Nothing like that. Running perfect on stock cooler. :)
