I recently purchased a Sabertooth 990FX Gen 3 Rev 2.0. I set it all up, and I posted first try but upon Windows trying to boot, my system restarted. I figured the first thing I would do to try to fix this is a BIOS update. I got the correct file from Asus's website and updated to the latest version. However, once it was done flashing, the system would not POST at all. The dram light was on indicating a problem with the RAM. I was confused, considering it worked before.

Unsure on what to do next, I tried the MEM-OK button. No luck. I figured now I'd try to rollback the BIOS with the BIOS Flashback feature.

I got my flashdrive, formatted to FAT32, got the older BIOS file, renamed it to "ST990R2G3.CAP" and plugged it into the white USB port. I held in the button, it blinked 4 times, and stayed solid. This indicates it did not work.

Confused, I grabbed another flash drive. I tried it, no luck.

I am now sitting here unsure on what to do. I am sure the BIOS flashback will fix the memory problem. I know my memory works with the mobo since it did before the update.

I also breadboxed it with no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?

Solution
I got the BIOS flashback to work. The problem? The filename. The MANUAL FOR THE MOTHERBOARD GIVES THE INCORRECT FILENAME! It should not be ST990R2G3.CAP. Oh no, of course not! Completely disregard the manual, and download the renaming tool on their website, and find out the correct filename is actually ST99R2G3.CAP.

Wonderful.

I tried that. I downloaded a few different versions. I have a theory of the problem, if anyone can confirm?

I tried doing it first with a 16GB USB 3.0 flash drive. I then tried with a 32GB 2.0. My only guess is that 3.0 isn't compatible and the 32GB is too much. Would it be smart to borrow a friends 4GB 2.0 and try that?

What memory are you using? If it's not on the approved vendors list it could be the issue. I bought a bundle from Tiger Direct recently with Patriot Viper Extreme 8 GB stick in it. The system worked fine for 3 days then crashed. I tried using the Memory OK button too, it worked once, then never again. I had to get a new Motherboard because the RAM was incompatible, and nullified the warranty. I am not sure how much damage it caused, but wasn't taking any chances, so TD replaced it.

LOL yup I had that feeling it was the file name issue. On the 990FX R2.0 non pci-e 3.0 board the manual is correct for the naming the file. So were you able to get the system booted again?

EDIT: on my board I have found that my system is more stable with Bios version 1903 than with the newer Bios versions. I suggest you play around to find the version that will work best for your board and not worry to much on having the newest Bios version out.
