So I bought a bunch of parts listed below and put it together and it ran fine, until I played video games and then it would restart and and at a BIOS screen it would indicate that a surge was detected which caused the restart so I RMA's the PSU.

When I put the new PSU in the comp it failed to boot to the BIOS. The MOBO is giving me a Q code of 55 (memory not installed) and the DRAM LED is on and not blinking. I've tried every RAM configuration possible and when I have only 1 ram stick installed it gives me a Q code of 53. Right now I have everything unhooked except the CPU, RAM, and my monitor. Unfortunately I don't have any friends who are PC enthusiasts so I can't swap parts out to test if anything is fried. I've also reset the CMOS and the old PSU is giving me the same results.

Make sure the memory sticks are seeded tight in place.

Pretty sure they are as A) it was working before I put the new PSU in and B) I've tried every sensible DIMM config possible.

Was your comp completely turned off or was it in sleep mode when you started replacing components?

The original problem seems to me that the bios and memory timings and maybe more were not set up correctly.

The only component I replaced at the time was the PSU and I'm pretty sure it was off although there is a possibility that it was on. Is there anyway I can reset the timings? I tried the MEMOK! feature on the mobo and there is no change. Could it be the new PSU surged there was a strange smell that lasted for about 10 seconds after I turned it on w/ the newer PSU.

Try unplugging, reset CMOS and then start with a single stick of DRAM
