Can I use an i7 4770k with my asus p8z77-v lx motherboard? it has the required socket but its not in the supported processors list on the asus homepage

No, you can't; The socket is actually different. The i7-4770k uses the 1150 socket and your motherboard uses the 1155 socket (Z77 chipset).

These are not compatible with one another. The CPU is socket 1150 and the motherboard is socket 1155.
