Hi, i built a gaming rig about 14 months ago, some components were brand new some were inherited, i have since replaced all 2nd hand components for new and everything is now under 14 months old. my pc is wonderful when im not gaming, i can leave it on all day long and its fine, watch a movie, fine. however, when im gaming and there are graphic spikes such as loading screen, or even just opening a menu in game it can freeze or completely shut down. i have downloaded temperature apps and am monitoring these at all times and they report temps all within parameters for my parts. i have a psu that is a bit overkill for my components.
i have tried reseating the cpu with no effect, tried running on 1 stick of ram as i have 2 x 4gb, with no effect.

im at a loss and loathed to send it in for someone to do a bit of 'trial and error' at £40+ an hour. although i realise this may be my only option now.

any other ideas welcome, this isn't limited to one game, so happy to rule out that ame software

general specs are
AMD motherboard - gigabyte
amd fx 6100 processor
8 gig 1600 ram
2 tb hard drive
gainward gtx 660 2 gb gpu
650w 80+ silver psu

thanks in advance

have you overclocked your GPU, CPU or RAM?

If so, drop them to stock settings and see of the problem goes away.

I ask as I had an overclock on my GPU which I thought was stable, but it would crash the menu system in Grid 2.

If that doesn't help, or you don't overclock, do you have another PC or a friends PC you could test your GPU in.

That would ultimately tell you if it's a GPU issue or not.

Hi thanks

yes checked all drivers and showing up to date, it has been suggested it could be a psu issue, but looking at the manufacturers requirements my 650w is more than enough.
