Hi, I am having problems achieving ideal temperatures overclocking. My friend suggested I overclock to get better consistent fps in CS:GO which is the only game I play.

I am trying to overclock i5-2500K with a z77A-g41 motherboard. I have a HYPER 212 EVO cooler.

I did some research on overclocking with this motherboard (and found that it is not a great board for doing so) however I am still interested in trying to make something work. I was told that a i5-2500K can achieve 3.8ghz pretty easily and that doing so would not be so demanding.

This motherboard offers very few options for overclocking so I simply upped the multiplier in the BIOS to 39 [ (100.00 x 39.0) DDR3 1600MHz ].

Idle temps on my CPU are now around 49/50c and using LinX they go upwards of 78/79c. Most likely it is this weak motherboard that is causing these high temperatures right?

Can anyone at least answer if these temps are ok? I ran LINX for the whole cycle and my cores peeked at 81 (only 1 core hit at 81) and averaged 78c. Can I use my computer with these temps?

The VID is at 1.36

Not dangerously high, but higher than they should be with a 212 EVO. I feel that maybe the cooler has mtg issues. The 212 EVO is kind of tricky to get mounted properly the first time you attempt it. The i5-2500k in my sig below idles at high 30Cs and never much goes above high 50Cs gaming with the 212 EVO cooling it.

I doubt your CPU is the problem with the game however. Source games are notoriously easy on the hardware. What graphics card are you using? What resolution is your monitor?
