Hello,

I'm getting a new ssd soon and I have a question about booting from it. Do I have to do anything in the bios before it will work? Like with the boot order, secure boot, legacy boot, etc?

It's a 840 evo and the laptop is lenovo ideapad z510. I'm not exactly sure how to change the boot order on this computer either.

Thanks guys

It all depends. If you're replacing your original hard drive, then the original boot order will still be in place. The drive in that slot will still be booted first, except it will be your SSD instead of your HDD. However, if you're ADDING a drive, then you may have to enter BIOS and change the boot order.

I would make sure that the bios is in AHCI mode. You will get better R/W speeds with an SSD.

Thanks guys! This is an awesome forum for help.

I will be replacing the main drive with an ssd and then once it's booted and everything, I'm going to format the hdd and put it into the odd bay. Based on what you said, I should already be good right? I won't be booting anything from the hdd.

And yes the bios is ahci enabled.
