I'm using an ALFA long range wireless usb adapter AWUS036H plugged into my computer to pick up my neighbors wifi with their permission. It works great for my desk top but I'd like to set up a router to have wifi at my house so I can use my iPad and phone without using data. What router do I buy and how do I hook it up without a dsl modem? I've tried hooking up a cisco WRT120N and it doesn't work. I cant install the disc, I get the message "Cisco Setup Wizard cannot run over a wireless connection." It appears to be connecting my iPad because the wifi signal is there but it's not really connected. It does this with just the router plugged into the outlet without any other connection at all and I cant use the internet on my iPad. My computer is old and still running on windows XP. My neighbor is doing me a huge favor letting me use her wifi. I live in a very rural area and I'm trying to take college classes online, it would be so much easier to use my iPad at home. Thank you in advance for your help.

You might be able to use a repeater but they are tricky to setup and don't work the best even when you have full control over all the equipment and they are used inside your house.

There is a special router that is sorta made to do this function and avoids the problems of a repeater. hawkingtech haw2r1. This router is one of the few that is designed to have a WAN port that is wireless. They make 2 models this one has a outdoor antenna but they have one that uses a smaller indoor antenna for the wan if you get very strong signal.
