Will the AMD A10-6800K work for a media center?

I am building an ITX computer designed to play movies and music, and am wondering if the A10-6800K would work to play blu-ray quality films? If not, should I go for the A10-7700K or is it better to save the money?

Also, will both of these drivers work on a linux machine?

Thanks!

Yes, that will easily be able to display blu-ray films, or any films for that matter. Just make sure you have a blu ray disc drive of course.

So if I am trying to save on costs, would it be smarter for me to trim it down to the 5800K and put that money somewhere else?

Yes, because almost any graphics will display a movie.

To be honest, you could probably get an even cheaper CPU. You don't need that much power for simply video-playback, unless you don't have a dedicated graphics card. Do you have a graphics card, or are you planning to install a graphics card into your build? If you're building a Media Centre/HTPC, I'd advise you do install a GPU and spend less on the CPU.

You can pick up almost any ATI HD graphics card with HDMI output, and it'll also output sound (in addition to video) via the HDMI connector too.

All the best.

Well the idea was to do an APU in an ITX. Because of the small size of the case I want, it can't really support a full graphics card on it. I was hoping that the APU would be a good alternative for it.

I mean, I could go lower on the APU, I am just worried if I go too low it won't be able to play high def, and right now Newegg has $40 off if I get the A10-5800K with some memory attached to it.

Even for Blu Rays? I have a crappy dual core APU on my laptop, and it can't run netflix streaming on high def, the processor just can't handle it, which is why I asked.

About how much should I be spending on the APU to make it passable?

Streaming netflix and video playback are two completely different things. It takes alot more CPU power and better internet connection to stream Netflix.

Sorry I should have clarified, I want it to play Blu-Ray disks and be able to stream Netflix/Amazon Prime/HBO Go. Do you know if the A10-6800K can handle that?
