For the last 14 years I have been using a PC as a sound recording studio and video editing machine (yes, the same one, though I upgraded the motherboard 10 years ago, added a larger hard disk 5 years ago....). It has a Creative Soundblaster Live Audigy sound card with a front panel mount that has RCA/phonoplug inputs, digital optical audio input and output, jack plug headphone output, jack plug mike input and SPDIF input and output on RCA sockets.all conveniently mounted on the front panel of the tower body. I quite often use various combinations of all these, and the software provided allows mixing, frequency response modification and lots of other stuff as well as sound effects etc.

I feel it is time to upgrade and intend basing it on a Lenovo Thinkcentre M58p tower unit with dual DVI-D monitors on its video card. Is there a sound card that provides all the things I mention above on a front panel? There seem to be a lot with some of those features, but on the back of the computer. I don't want to be for ever grovelling about at the back when I connect different sources (record player, tape recorder, digital disc recorder with optical out, etc).

Any ideas anyone? Thanks for any suggestions!

David

The closest current product to that today is the Sound Blaster Zxr. Unfortunately the last card to have those inputs/outputs on the front that I know of is the X-fi Elite and X-fi Platinum (both PCI)... Creative had Emu stuff but they don't keep the drivers up to date for those and there has been no Win 8 drivers for it so future support looks non existent going that route.
