I having problem with my Pc, every time I turn on the computer upto the post screen it keep asking me to boot into CD/DVD, even though I set my HDD as my first choice to boot into, but whenever I unplug the power cable from the hdd and plug it back in it boot normal again, but if I restart the computer again that problem still remain?? So I hope someone can tell me what is the problem, is it the cable or the HDD?

P.s. This just happen the last two days, I'm not sure what the problem is. I just don't want to waste my money on a new hdd if that wan'ts the main culprit. THANK in ADVANCE

Intel Quad CPU Q6600 @2.40ghz

Graphic, AMD Radeon HD 5670, Video memory 1gb

Storage Memory 8gb Ram

Motherboard, Gigabyte p35-DS3L v2.0

_____________

I also has this other problem, whenever I plug this HP external Hard drive, it always cause the boot logo to stay there for like 3 minutes before it could go to the post screen. But if I unplug it I don't have to wait for 3 minute to past the Boot logo but would go to the post screen in 1-2 seconds. What funny is that my seagate external hard drive doesn't have that problem

hmm well that stuff is a bit old (2007), but if you say you built it new in 2010-2011, I don't think you should be having hardware problems yet.

You said you tested it on a friend's computer, but did you actually run CHKDSK? It'll give you a definitive yes or no if it's the HDD or not.

Lastly, if you think it's your PSU can you please list it? The mobo and HDD model would be helpful to. Thanks

Ok so you have 2 HDD then? Model # on both if you can find in System Information.

I'm a bit confused now, you say that both the HP and seagate are external drives. By this you mean back up/slave drives? if so, could you list the HDD you use to boot with.

I only boot the window with my internal which is a seagate, these 2 external are just back up storage to store movies and music ect.

1st external 1tb HDD. is a seagate (this one has no problem)
2nd external 2tb HDD. HP external HDD this one cause the 3 minute waiting with the Bio/motherboard logo before going into the post screen

P.s. In total I has 3 hard drive, but I used the internal HDD to Boot the window the external HDD are just storage/back up

I wonder do HP external HDD has a history of causing this?

hmm well, I can give you an example with my computer. I have a SSD for my boot and two 1TB hard drives for media. Before I added the HDDs, I could boot in 10sec when I only had my SSD in. Now with both HDDs attached, it takes 25-30 seconds for full boot. I'm wondering if that could be something, just a hope :p

How full are each of your HDDs right now?

hehe, that's why I asked for the model #'s of the HDDs. The model number is on the top of the HDDs if you can't find it in System Information. It is possible it developed bad sectors/failing.

I have this waiting problem since the day I brought it, although I wasn't bother with it much, but since I'm asking I might as well ask there solution for this :p

Ok, I'll get back to you in the morning. You may want to update your original post with the specs of your computer/model #'s since it will help other people get info quicker. PSU model would be good to since that may still be a concern.

I have finally found out the main culprit of the problem, it was the hard drive that is almost on it last life. At first I thought it could be the PSU thinking it could be not able to provide the HDD enough power, but it wasn't the case. So I think it could be the virus but then I try and to go to Uninstall the window which however doesn't allow me too (keep rebooting the start up repair that I can't get pass), because the computer can't detect the HDD, this where I suspect that my Hard drive is about to died, so I brought a new HDD and install my windows and run completely fine, and I even manage to move all file from that old HDD which so far had no problem and feel much more smoother than before.

Anyway thank jaraldo for some help
