Hello guys,

I'm interested in getting a CPU cooler since my stock Intel is dieing.

My specs:

-Asus Rampage III Formula

-Intel i7-950

-Kingston HyperX 3x2GB @1800Mhz {khx1800c9d3t1k3/6gx) -(https://www.google.com/search?q=kingston+hyperx+khx1800c9d3t1k3+6gx&safe=off&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=vUJ1U-SXMISR7AbZ0oHICQ&sqi=2&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAw&biw=1280&bih=913#imgdii=_)

-CM Storm Scout

The price of each cooler is:

-Hyper 212 Evo = 29€ (comes with 1 fan)

-Hyper 412S = 34€ (comes with 1 fan)

-Hyper 412 Slim = 45€ (comes with 2 fans)

Since I have a high profile RAM I want to make sure that there wont be any problem with clearance.

I've done some research regarding the clearance of the RAM:

-Here's a video of a cooler on my mobo with a fan on the RAM : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL-Z0jRC2B4

- A photo of the 212 EVO on an ASUS IV Maximus Gene: http://media.overclocking-tv.com/uploads/2012/05/DSC07723.jpg | (Maximus Gene - http://media.bestofmicro.com/M/U/309270/original/asus_maximus-iv-gene-z_top.jpg) and (Rampage Formula - http://www.3dnews.ru/assets/external/illustrations/2010/10/11/599951/IMG_2460.jpg) for comparison.

-More photos of the 412 Slim and RAM clearance: http://www.eteknix.com/cooler-master-hyper-412-slim-cpu-cooler-review/5/

I think the best solution would be the 412 Slim, since it comes with 2 fans already and it seems to handle better the RAM clearance issues. Getting a second fan for the 212 EVO or the 412S it would be ~39€ and ~44€ respectively.

If the RAM clearance will still be an issue, I can lift the fan ~2-3mm or move the RAM in the 2/4/6 dimms, right?

Also, if in the future I would like to install more RAM, can I use 5 of the 6 dimm slots? Could my PC work properly? If not, I can install a low-profile ram in the 1/3/5 slots and keep the high profile in the 2/4/6 slots accordingly.

Thank you in advance, I'm more than happy to hear you suggestions and tips.

Is it just a stock replacement or is it for overclocking too?

You could go for a aio watercooling solution that is 120mm looking at the ram question.

I woukln't use just 5 slots for memory,i think the ram will work in single channel or get used in a not so effective way.You could use 4 slots, but the ram would work dualchannel in that case.

For the moment it's for stock clocks cooling, but I'm interested in OCing later.
I'm not considering water-cooling (Corsair Hydro series) due to budget constrains.

Thanks for your reply.
