Why is it that the naga 2012 has the extra side rests but the naga 2014 doesn't?

(Naga 2014: http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-2014-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00E8CF268)
(Naga 2012: http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-MMO-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B007VPZR5U)

Is there a way to mod one to have the extended side or a way to contact Razer to try and change this?

Well someone who has decent skills with modding (in any field) can do just about anything they can think of. :)

It may not look the prettiest, but if you could carve out the side panel of the 2012 to match the 2014 then attach it with some kind of adhesive.

My personal opinion is that you shouldn't mod it and just get used to the new mouse design, this will take a week or 2 but entirely up to you.

Which of the side panels do you use? It seems like they modeled the 2014 after the first panel on the left.

Does the new Razer Naga have interchangeable side panels?
No, the new Razer Naga features an ergonomic shape that fits a wide range of hand sizes, shapes, and grip-styles.

I guess it was just a decision by the designers to remove it.

I have the 2012, and looking at the side rest, it doesn't look like it will fit on the 2014 version because of the new design.
It also looks like they may have just chosen the middle sized side rest from the 2012 and applied it to the 2014 to save money from having to ship 3 separate panels.

Thanks for the information on the choice of the designers, but that's only one half of my answer, is there a way to make/get a mold and attach the extended rest to the naga 2014?
