Can I install a AMD FX-6300 on a Gigabyte GA-78LMT s2 Mobo without actually damaging it?
By damaging it I mean will the processor cause over-heating issues on this particular mobo?

No. You should be fine. I wouldn't do a whole lot of overclocking on it though as its just 4+1 phase.
