My custom computer has two drives:
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 500 GB HDD SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 16MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST500DM002
SSD - Intel 330 Series Maple Crest SSDSC2CT180A3K5 2.5" 180GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I use the SSD mostly for games and this setup worked perfectly for about 9 months until one day the HDD (with OS) wouldn't boot with the SSD plugged in. With the SSD unplugged the HDD works fine. Can anyone help figure out how to get the SSD working again? Is it defective?

In my humble opinion - you are doing it wrong. Ok - a little harsh. Most of the benefit of a SSD can be experienced in having your OS installed on it - and a select number of games - leaving the slower drive for your data. However - let's get back to the problem you are experiencing.

First - make sure that both drives are recognizable within your BIOS (both plugged in - go straight to BIOS.)

If recognized, check your advanced boot settings and give the HDD the priority (likely after a DVD-ROM). Keep your SSD off the list of boot priority if you can.

Test. Let me know how it goes.

Another something to look at is making sure that the boot drive is on the lowest SATA port on your board.
