I will build a pc in q3 2014. My question is, do I really need an overclocking mobo like mpower or maximus iv? An i5 at stock frequency is enough right? Also nvidia will release nvlink in 2016. I could buy a normal mobo now and nvlink compatible oc mobo then. I guess you can oc an i5 to 4 ghz on a normal mobo. I really wanna fit gtx 770 / 870 in my budget.

if you are not planning to over clock i would not get a motherboard with that ability. but i think almost all motherboards have that feature standard now so it would not hurt to get one with it. but you would need a aftermarket cooler

The difference between an i5-4670k overclocked with a supporting board and heatsink will be 5-10% in gaming, while costing 50% more than an i5-4570. However, using the extra $140 saved by getting a better GPU will ALWAYS yield better results. For example, an i5-4570 + H87 board with a 770 will perform a good deal better than an i5-4670k and GTX 760.
