How does Asus auto tuning work?

So I heard of a software that automatically OC your CPU.

How does it work?
Any tutorials?

Mother board: Asus Maximus VI hero
CPU: 4770K
Cooler: Nh-d14

    So.. is it a good thing for the mobo to be "painless" ?

    it's the least feature they can include.

    it will freak you out, especially if you're not aware of the boot cycle.

There's both software based and BIOS based auto tuning with the Hero, I'd go the hardware version via the BIOS, it examines and test things at 4.2, 4.4, or 4.6 and decides what your components can need to run at, it works fairly well, then when you are stable can go in and often lower voltages, or if you want to try higher you will have an idea of what was changed (if you took screen shots of the base settings) and can increase the OC
