Windows 7 AMD system keeps freezing

Hi everyone,
I built this system:

AMD Phenom II x2 550 BE
Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P Motherboard
4 GB GSKILL ram 1333 MHz
HIS Radeon 4670 Video card

a few years ago. It worked great for a while, and then started freezing a few minutes after startup. Once it came back it would work fine until it went to sleep. Eventually it got annoying enough that about 6 months ago I did a full reinstall of Windows 7. This did not solve the problem. Lately it is getting worse with freezes every 15-30 minutes that last 1-2 minutes. I'm thinking this is a hardware issue, but I don't know where to start. I don't have any spare pieces to swap out to check components. I've also booted in safe mode, and the problem persisted?

Any advice?

power supply or the hard disk..

thats probably aging components, the hard disk is mechanical so after a long time of service it would definitely fail

the power supply regulates voltage in capacitors susceptible to heat, breakdown imminent after a few years.

For the power supply, you will need to install something like hwmonitor to check the voltage on all rails, especially the +12v rail, it should not go under 11.5v. For stability

For the hdd, compare it with another hdd with fresh install of windows OS

I've been running HWmonitor for a while now. The +12V is usually over 12, but the min shows 3ish. I reset it to see if it correlates with a freeze, but haven't noticed.

Also, the 3.3 and 5V mins are much lower.

The power supply -ish thing is kinda bad.. It should be constant on idle and under load.

If your confident that wd diagnostic is accurate then next is the ram stick, test with memtest86 for errors.

As for me, im not particularly confident about wd diagnostic, testing with a different hard drive is always better.

Since you already re-installed the OS,
checked the ram,
cpu and mobo are fine because the pc turned on,

As for hardware diagnostics, the next logical step is to try with a different hard drive.

Also i forgot to mention, if your using 2 or more sticks of RAM, try just one then check if the problem persist.

I don't know if this is the issue, but tonight I was playing a game through steam and it crashed several times. This is happening more frequently. I checked the event viewer and under security, at the same time as the crashes there is a logon event 4624, followed by special logon 4672. Could this be the cause of the hang-ups as well?
