Hi
I have an i7 3820 and am unsure if it works. I had an asus p9x79 deluxe mobo which stopped working. The CPU warning light came on. There was a smell of electrical burn coming from the motherboard. I've returned it for a full refund but have now changed to a slightly more sensible z87 chipset. Which means I cannot test my CPU. Do you reckon CPU will be ok? if not how do I test it?
Many thanks

Not sure why you got a Z87 motherboard if you have an LGA 2011 socket CPU.

The best thing I can suggest currently is just get a 2011 motherboard and test the CPU. I don't see many other ways to test a CPU. If it's physical condition looks okay (nothing dinged, no soot on the chip), it's just about your only choice.
