Not really sure how to make a thread correctly, but the setup is as follows:

Asus M5a97 LE 2.0
SAPPHIRE 100364L Radeon R9 270X
AMD FX 8320
8gb DDR3 1600
SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620W


So, when the card was inserted first, it worked, board booted etc. After a day or so, not being used, the cards fans would spin at boot, but then stop and would give no display. Reseated it and it would work sometimes, but never consistently. Put a different card in it, worked immediately. Put the 270x in another computer and that worked as well. Any suggestions?

Also, I tried using a different power supply, no luck though

it can be the case that a bios update fixes small incompatibilities such as the one you are describing. picture a pci ex port that's not 100% effective and from time to time the card crashes instead of booting normally. if possible i would suggest you boot from the 6870 to do the upgrade to avoid any risks.

for example:
Version 1709
Description M5A97 LE R2.0 BIOS 1709
1.Fix HDD(1TB up) read error under win XP of IDE mode.
2.Fix system hang on 0x94 when use ZOTAC GT610 VGA Card.

edit: if you're unsure and feel uneasy about the upgrade take it to a pc shop near you and most would upgrade it for you for a small fee.

I'll try that when I head back home. Here's to hoping it works, it's a friend's first build and a problem I haven't run into before lol. I'll update when I find out
