Hey I have just upgraded my gpu from a 5450 to r9 280x and my pc shutdown before Windows can start but it isn't the card because I had a different card before I had the card I have now. My specs are-
Fx8350
Sabertooth 990fx r2.0
Corsair ax860i
Patriot viper 3
On another forum post that I found on Tom's hardware it says that my pc could be broken so do I have to send it back?
Thanks.

Put in old card and do use a Restore Point/System Recovery where the old driver is installed. You can do this with the Original Installation disk/Recovery Disk and/or from the boot menu or press f8 with Windows.
Then you can try deinstalling the driver, shutdown the system, (disconnect the wall power connection) take out old card, put in new card, start system and install the new drivers.
Did you follow the golden rule ?
Uninstall any video driver related to the 5450 prior to fitting the r9 280x card.
If not it will cause a conflict and why just before windows starts it bombs out.

Put the 5450 back in, then uninstall the Ati drivers.
Shutdown and put the r9 280x in and it should work.

Install the new Ati driver with r9 series support.
