Hi all,

Recently bought a pair of second hand msi radeon r9 280x graphics cards. I noticed that although they perform very well, there is some tearing in games and when i am watching videos online in full screen (netflix or youtube.)

I was wondering if there was a way to update the bios on these cards or to return them to factory defaults somehow?

In CCC i tried running them at a lower voltage, but even though there is less tearing, tearing still occurs randomly.

What is VSYNC?

Yes I have used each card separately. Each one produces the tearing symptoms. My drivers are up-to-date.

check with the card manufacturer. I read a night or two ago about auto BIOS updating software inre to amd cards. don't remember the program or the card I was looking at at the time.

also, what is this amd power tune stuff? look into that. maybe previous user over volted the card?

i cringe when I see people say they bought used stuff. ......... the deal that's too good to be true.

Some used stuff isn't that bad but used gpus is a hit and miss.

I know what you mean. I still think it was a great deal and it's a deal better than what I had before even with a little bit of tearing. It's not gamebreaking just a little annoying so if it's fixable i'd like to fix it. I'll read that thread and make the changes then let you know if it worked or not.

When you meant you lower their voltage, you mean clock speed right?

people raise the voltage to raise the clock speed to try and make the over clock stable. so you'd have to lower the voltages to come back to "stock" whatever that was.
these newer cards have something that auto over clocks. when the card get's hot it automatically under clocks or slows the clock. maybe that needs to be looked at. (thermal throttling)
