All in one water cooling question....

Hello,

I am building basically my own Steambox based on the following specs:

  • BitFenix Prodigy
    Gigabyte Z87N
    Core i7 4770K
    Creative Sound
    eVGA GTX 680
    8 GB Gskill

Based on the CPU cooling I had previously purchased a Thermaltake Waterperformer 3.0 which is a closed loop cooling solution and would not take a lot of space inside the case....and yeah this would be my first liquid cooler.

I have not assembled everything together yet but I am somewhat afraid of the CPU cooler breaking down sometime in the future and either causing my CPU to overheat or leak all inside my case.

I know I sound paranoid but I would appreciate any advice from other enthusiasts.

Thank you!

The steps a CPU goes through to keep itself safe:
1. Most BIOS have a temp warning.
2. At 90C Intel CPUs start doing some serious throttling, meaning they reduce their speeds and voltages to keep themselves safe.
3. If it gets too hot, the BIOS/MOBO shuts the computer down.
4. If something is screwy with the MOBO, the CPU will become unstable and crash the OS.

Most of us water coolers who go closed loop buy Corsair, but they are all ok. Why would it break down? The pumps usually have a 30,000-50,000 hour run time.

EDIT: Reviews look ok, most closed loop systems have four stars because there will always be that one that happens to drip a little. I would say that it looks like a good cooler for a beginning user. I am custom loop cooled, and if you plan on lots of overclocking you will want a 240MM radiator, not a 120MM. My radiator is 360MM, and keeps my FX8350 at 13C idle (socket temp), which happens to be 20F below my ambient air temp.

Thank you for your reply

Yeah I saw after I (now) already have the Thermaltake brand they use a 2 year warranty and Corsair is 5 and in either case do not expect them to break down.

However in the event that a cooler does stop working will the system power off to prevent the CPU from overheating?
