Hey guys, I am planning on building a gaming pc and I'm not sure which mother board to get... I'm planning on over clocking and I'll be running a Intel Core i7-4770K. Thank you!

More about : asus maximus formula vii hero

You need to run through the specs of each with a fine tooth comb and compare them to each other and what you'd prefer. Both are acceptable for an i7 4770k

I have an i7-4770k with an Asus Maximus VI Formula and two Asus HD7970 but I am more and more confused and I am considering selling everything and going for an i7-4790 or 4790k with the VII Hero and two R9 290. What I don't get is why they did not built the Formula VII if it was one of the best MO Under the z87?

I've got both the HERO VI and VII - both are great the VII is better, OCs better, ready for even faster DRAM runs cooler, I currently have a 4770K in both, (waiting for the 4790K and 4690K to be released)...the Formula is a good mobo, but unless thinking of Liquid cooling everything, see no need for it, the extra cost for it could be applied a number of other places in your rig (and your 7970s will run fine, had a pair of them in my Hero VI (in sig) and am currently running my 780s in the VII, for temp purposes have a 660TI in VI

I also bought two Kraken G10 but neither of the 7970 or R9 seem to fit well with the G10. I need to choose between

In the end it will be you that has to pull the trigger, with either though I'd suggest changing the DRAM to a 2x8GB (less stress on the MC (memory controller) and possiblly going the GSkill Tridents (1866/8) or Snipers (1866/9)

Normally a 750 would with either 7970s or 290s, but if liquid cooling all I'd go 800 or even 850

4x8GB, I haven't used one of the NZXTs but have seen good reviews overall, I'd be happy to try one ;)

I'm still in reflexion... should I sell my I7-4770K and my Formula VI motherboard and buy a VII AND A i7-4970k....?
I read somewhere that the VI is already capable of 4K's so is it only wasting money to change or really Worth it?

The i7 4790k is a good cpu. But only a small step up from the 4770k. I'd only change if I had money burning a hole in my pocket.

The CPU is a slight step up (and OCs better), going to the Z79 though offers upgrade avenues to the Broadwell CPUs when they are released

Ok guys I took my decision after receiving a good offer for my two Asus GPU's 7970 HD's so I decided to sell them and with the money I bought another EVGA GTX 780 Classified with Kraken G10's and Zalman LQ310 for cooling. My goal is still to build a 4K system so I can play games on my 50'' TV. I have a 3500$ budget. I know I could save money with only one GPU and without cooling both GPU but hey what the heck. I could buy the Asus Formula VII and the I7-4790K but I find out that the Asus Formula VI is 4K ready. I paid 300$ for it and i can't even sell it at 250$ add shipping and selling fees and I would lose 75$ to fast. So Here are my parts.

One ASUS Maximus VI Formula ATX LGA1150 Z87 DDR3 CrossFireX SLI 3PCI-E16 SATA3 DP USB3.0 Motherboard
One Intel Core i7 4770K Unlocked Quad Core 3.5GHZ Processor LGA1150 Haswell 8MB Cache Retail
Two EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Dual Classified 3GB PCI-E w/ ACX Cooler, Dual DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort
One NZXT Switch 810 Full ATX Window Steel Case 4X5.25 6X3.5 2XUSB3.0 Audio and Mic Input
Two G.SKILL TridentX F3-2400C10D-16GTX 2X8GB DDR3-2400 CL10 240PIN 1.65V Dual 19200
One ASUS BW-12B1ST Blu-Ray Writer 12X BD-R 16X DVD+R Sata Black Retail
One EVGA SuperNOVA NEX750B 750W Bronze Modular Power Supply
One NZXT Sentry 2 Touch Screen 5 Channel Fan Controller
Two NZXT Kraken G10 GPU Liquid Cooler Bracket - Red
One Samsung 840 EVO Series Solid State Drive, 500GB
Two Zalman LQ-310 CPU Liquid Cooler
Three NZXT FZ 140mm LED Fan, Red

I wand to change the PS for a 1000 or 1200watts NZXT HALE90 and the NZXT fan controller for the Asus dual front base.

What do you think?

I'd up the PSU, 750 is on the shy side, 1000 watt is a little overkill but will do quite nicely ;)  The rest looks great, have fun!
