First, I'll start off with my system specs:

Case - NZXT Source 210
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
CPU - AMD FX-8350
CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
GPU - Gigabyte GTX 780 Windforce Edition
RAM - 16GB Corsair Vengeance Black
PSU - Rosewill Xtreme Series 850W
HDD - WD 1TB Blue
Optical - DVD RW Logitech
Fans - 2 120mm Cooler Master fans, 1 120mm NZXT fan, 1 80mm Apevia fan (intake)

Background: I recently overclocked my CPU to 4.5Ghz at 1.38 volts because.. why not? I figured I had a good enough cooler and airflow to minimize dangerous heat levels and I enjoy seeing a boost in some of my favorite CPU intensive games.

I headed to the BIOS, and remembered that, in order for the overclocking to actually apply, I needed to disable TURBO BOOST. So, I disabled it and restarted my system.

I proceeded to run Prime 95 for an hour or so and do another hour of intensive gaming. No crashes or stutters.

PROBLEM: I shut down my computer, and pressed the power button to boot it back up. The computer started for about half a second and died. I pressed the power button again, and the computer made a very loud grinding/buzzing sound and proceeded to boot like a champion. I opened core temp after login. Everything was normal, overclocking was functioning, temperature was around 20-30 C.

Does Turbo Boost have to be disabled in order for the overclock to take effect?

If so, what on earth is causing my computer to die and then resurrect as a meat grinder?

Thanks

Well, the clicking sound sounds like your hard drive, or maybe your optical drive. It's not the CPU; it makes no noise whatsoever (although it could be the CPU fan). What I don't get is why the computer didn't start.

Does the noise go away after the computer starts?
