So it's my first time building a PC, and my budget is around $750. Will be using it mainly for some casual gaming, Photoshop, development (Visual Studio), some scientific computing (Mathematica, Matlab), some office work, web browsing, etc. This will be my main PC for the next 5+ years, so I've done my research and this is what I've come up with:

PCPartPicker link:http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Hermann/saved/4GJF

Approximate Purchase Date: August 2014.

Budget Range: 700~800 (can't do rebates).

Parts Not Required: I already have a monitor, speakers, mouse and keyboard.

Country: USA (Miami).

Overclocking: Not interested at all in overclocking.

SLI or Crossfire: Not interested in dual GPU.

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080.

Additional Comments: I am hoping this build to last me for several years, so my main concern (apart from performance) is endurance. That's why I went for the caviar black HDD, the Asus motherboard, and stayed away from overclocking. Am I right?

I'd like some input on this, like I know I don't need the i7 (multithreading) because I'm not doing video editing, but what DO I need, say for developement. More ram? faster ram? Can I fit an SSD in the build and not lose quality? Also the blu-ray burner is important for me as I'll be doing frequent and big back-ups.

Any additional comments are welcome.

Little more processor, Don't waste money on Black edition HDDs. I have had this same exact Seagate in my rig for 5 years now, not 1 bad sector yet. Gave you a little bit more GPU as well. You could drop down to 270 and maybe get an SSD in the build. Went with a mATX motherboard since you are not worried about OC or SLI/XFire.

This looks good but if you want to go with a slghtly cheaper card with very little performance difference then you can get the R9 270
