Can I install a Geforce Titan Black Overclocking GPU in my Toshiba Qosmio X870 gaming laptop.

My laptop is a Qosmio X870. It currently has an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz. I am running 8G RAM (7.89 GB usable). Running on Windows 8.1 x64. I am using its standard power supply. I don't think that will be to much of an issue. The computer is a little over a year old, I've had it since the beginning of college in the spring of 2013. The power supply is massive with a multi-prong input to the computer. The GPU that is currently installed is a Nvidia Geforce GTX 670M running Driver Version 337.50. My hard drive is atleast 500GB HDD. I'm not sure what my motherboard is.I am running an Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 Adapter. I hope these specs will help with my question. As for the motherboard, i know it's about a year old but not to sure what the make and model is.

motherboard doesn't really matter, what matters most is if the CPU you choose doesn't bottleneck the card or the PSU you get can power it including your system. Any Z77,Z87 or even Z97 motherboard is what I would prefer, more in-depth, I'd suggest ASUS, MSI or AsRock or Gigabyte

It might do you some good to read about building desktops. Typically the only parts of a laptop you can replace/upgrade is the ram and hard disks (or ssds). Laptops are built to run very low power, your 670m takes about 75 watts; the titan black requires somewhere in the range of 300 to 400 watts, so you'd need a desktop powersupply to run it. Also it is large enough so that there is no way to install it inside the laptop case, it would have to sit outside.

I can't fault your optimism, but it just won't work.

that may not be possible most laptops solder the laptop gpu to the motherboard pcb, so even changing the laptop gpu might not be possible

OK so the Titan is out until I can get a few grand together to get the components to build me a desktop. So if I am able to upgrade my GPU, what is a recommendation that would be better than the GPU that I already have.

I am looking to put together a desktop for gaming and development. So i am really wanting a Titan, I wouldn't mind being able to hook it up to a 3D printer either. But I need to try and decide what the best motherboard for a Titan Black would be. I would like to have a Full-tower so I've really got to take the dimensions into account.

You might want to take technology one step at a time. Here in one thread you've gone from thinking that you can put a big video card in a laptop, and that your powersupply will be up to it, because it's got "multi-prongs".

Now you say you're going to do (software?) development, and get a 3d printer running?
and that you need a $1100 video card to do so?

Might you be a troll?

Qosmio X870 Great gaming laptop by the way.... The X870 has 2 GPU's, one HD 4000 for (Office and General Computing Needs) and an GE Force GTX 670M with Nvidia 3D Vision and 3GB (DDR5 RAM on board) SWEET! Really! Even today NOT many 17" Gaming Laptops can compete. It is Portable, ONLY 3.4 Kgs. It plays even 3D Blu-ray Movies! Allows it's user to RECORD to RE- Blu-ray Disks also great for BACKUP!!! And BEST of ALL it will PLAY GAMES at HIGH RES. and in 3D which is so, so AWESOME!!!! Just Cause 2 is a fantastic game but, play it in 3D........Oh WOW! Can't wait to play Just Cause 3 and GTA V when released in 2015.
Yes, you do need a COOLPAD under the machine when you are Hard Core Gaming but, with a USB XBOX360 Controller for PC, you really have a great combo. I haven't even touched on LAN Parties with the Qosmio X870, yep envy of most other players in the room as the 17.3" FULL HD 1080p (120Hz Screen) is crisp and detailed with high frame-rates.... With a Laptop GAMING rig, you buy the best you can get with your money at the time, realize that the only real upgrade will be throwing in extra RAM, and 32GB in the X870 running on a Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit) will be one of the best things you can do! I think that 2 SSD, above 1TB each will be my only upograde in 2015.....I hope this helps.....Don't try Over clocking either the CPU or the GPU in this Laptop or you might find you will COOK IT!!! :(
