Hey guys, I'm having problems with my mic in steam. My mic works just fine in windows voice recorder but it's really quiet in Steam.

People can't hear me in game and to get the mic volume test in steam settings to echo, I have to Yell or blow really hard into the mic. The 'boost microphone gain' option in Steam is grayed out.
I've checked the settings on my soundcard driver, Steam, and the windows Control Panel; Voume is maxed out on all of them.

I'm using a Zalman clip on mic, an Asus Xonar DG sound card, and Windows 8.1.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I have the exact same issue, could definitely use some troubleshooting options. I have a razer kraken headset with the asus xonar dgx sound card. All drivers are updated and my mic sounds great and works properly in the windows mic test and playbacks. Only in steam, and steam games does it become extremely quiet almost silent. Have checked all settings for mic volume to ensure that they are maxed and disabled all other recording devices other than my one microphone.
