Hi,
I built a custom computer around 8 months ago, and it has been working great ever since. However, now, there is a weird problem. The computer has power (all the LEDs are on and such) but whenever i push the power button, nothing happens. It started a couple days ago, at first i pushed it again and it worked fine, but it's gotten worse since then. now it won't work at all. I need to know what the problem is...
nothing is overclocked, all default settings.
i tried resetting the CMOS
Mobo: Asus maximus VI hero
CPU: intel 4770K
graphic card: Geforce GTX 780
PSU: AX860
RAM: 32gb corsair vengance. (4 sticks)
and razer keyboard/mouse

Easy things first, try making sure its not just a faulty power switch. You can do thins by removing the power switch cable from the motherboard and shorting the two pins that the jumper sits on (make sure it is the power switch pins). If it powers up without issue (try a few times) then the fault is either the cable/jumper or the switch its self. If you have a multimeter then you can also prove the switch with that. If its not the switch then let us know and we can test further

there is already a power button on the motherboard itself, and i clicked it and it didn't work. I shorted the two power pins and nothing happened.

Instead of debating whether or not the case is crappy just test the damn switch lol I have bought perfectly functional £15 cases on both of my kids PC's. They dont have the best cable management, the dont have aerospace grade air circulation and they look crappy but they all work. PROVE THE SWITCH :D

Ok cool then the fault is 1 of the following, CPU is faulty, PSU has gone bad or the mobo is dead. You will need to borrow a PSU and test it in your machine to prove that is the PSU or not also look for any crushed or trapped cables and make sure all connections are sound. A faulty PSU is the most likely cause of the problem. Sorry i missed your last response lol

The issue is most definitely not with the CPU. This problem has been occurring for the past couple of days. The PC wouldn't turn on at first, but after clicking a couple of times, removing all cables, connecting it to another wall socket, and a lot of other things like opening the case, it would start. But once it shuts down, it starts with the same ordeal. Now, it won't start at all...
I'm pretty sure the problem is either with the MOBO or the PSU. The LED's on the MOBO are on, if that changes anything, and the first time i cleared the CMOS, it started, which was yesterday. Does this information eliminate anything?

The connecters are all perfectly tugged in. It's an expensive set up, i didn't expect these problems so early on...
I can't find a PSU to try out, but yesterday, i removed all the connecters between the mobo and the PSU and reconnected them. It worked yesterday, but today it's the same issue again...
I've been thinking dead mobo for a while, but it's a bit difficult to swap out, so i'm leaving it for last (asus maximus vi extreme). If it's a dead mobo, shouldn't it not work at all, instead of acting like this?

Update: I've got a hypothesis of what fixes the problem. I will try it over the next few days, and maybe it will indicate a problem that someone is familiar with. To get the computer working, i have to remove the power from it, by removing the cable, for some time. When reconnecting it, it works. Ideas?

No, but i think i found a temporary solution. After using the computer, and when i need to shut it down, i should unplug the cable. The next time i need to use it, i just plug the cable back and it works first go. What could the problem be, fixed by this method?
